Mahoney/Peck featured artists on WDIY

WDIY is commercial free and listener supported radio for the Greater Lehigh Valley area and the entire world via streaming radio.Bill Fox, host of Galactic Travels, has recently announced that Mahoney and Peck will be the featured artists for March. I imagine that this will include tracks from solo works from both artists as well as tracks composed together and tracks from the upcoming (and currently untitled) release from Mahoney and Peck that features works from the 2008 season that includes The Gathering's performance, Star's End and a rare Mahoney/Peck online concert broadcast via Stillstream.com.

"As the low drones of the title track rumble, you know instantly that you are listening to an ambient album. A slow synth lead adds a bit of structure a couple of minutes in, wailing mournfully in a Robert Rich primordial glurp sort of way. The mood gradually brightens nicely, however, creating an ambient journey that takes a number of pleasant detours, ending with beautifully sparkling space music. “A Visit To A Most Ancient Outpost” features a gently playful oboe-like synth and a soft bass pulse in the first half and bright bubbly synths and sequencing in the second half. We move back into more ambient territory with the next tracks, one spacious and light, the other dark and deep. The latter, “Voices Within the Solar Stream” is one of the best haunting ambient tracks of 2009, full of dark choirs that reverberate into infinity. “Starfish” is a very natural continuation of that tone, reminiscent of the space music sound of Jonn Serrie, albeit a shade darker than that. “Sailing Into Calm Remembrances” has more of a Brian Eno feel about it, minimal ambient with subtle sonic colorings throughout. “Chopped Logic” sounds like its name, a quirky ambient mish-mash that entertains to the end. Mark Mahoney has nicely carved out a unique niche for himself in the ambient genre."

Killbot's (aka Daniel Sexton) Beep and Twitch is a lively and fantastic mixture of breakcore, drum-n-bass and gabber. This release manages to transcend the typical low-accessibility of breakcore, utilizing finesse instead of the all too predictable programming we have all grown so tired of. What sets Killbot apart from many of his peers is his embracement of the microphone. Processed vocals deliver an uncanny message of topics ranging from potty training, vampires to business suit entrepreneurship. If you haven't guessed by now, he's not taking himself too seriously allowing the listener to once again have fun with a new record while delving deep into a complex audio exercise.

M Peck's City Skies Performance

Below are the links to M. Peck's set at the City Skies concert series last weekend in Decatur, Georgia hosted by Jim Combs and Kavarna.

It was a great night for live music last Saturday in Decatur's Kavarna; located in somewhat of an oasis in the downtown area. A surprisingly large number of people were on hand and close to a hundred were tuned in on stillstream.com to listen in on the evening's performances.
Thank you to Jim for putting together a great night and having me down and thanks to the staff of Kavarna for their hospitality.

Kuwahara: Honey Cult
From experimental electronic performer Mike Honeycutt and M. Peck, Honey Cult offers an orgy of sound with a dismal undercurrent. The first single "A Basket for Elliot" can be heard on the Chaotic Underworld Noise Compilation Volume 4 "We Still Prey".

Back again together to collaborate on their fourth full length release that focuses on material composed for the 2008 Gathering performance in Philadelphia, PA. This perhaps is the most diverse and conceptual offering from Mahoney and Peck to date.
